DONALD SULTAN SHOWCASE SEPTEMBER 2025

If you happened to be by the gallery back in September, you might have noticed some exciting after-hours activity, because that month we held our Donald Sultan showcase! We revamped our walls and windows to highlight the artist’s signature works, as well as debuted pieces from his latest collection.

Our space was full of color and form, and many of you responded to the work with curiosity and interest. We were beyond delighted to host our clients and collectors for a lovely night of wine, cheese, and art.

We can’t recount what a great time we had without mentioning that Donald Sultan himself made an appearance and was a fantastic guest for the evening. I think it’s safe to say Sultan is having a moment in DC as our showcase also accompanied the Katzen Art Center’s exhibition on the artist; From Painting to Print: The Poppies, Mimosas, and Lantern Flowers of Donald Sultan (September 6 - December 17).

We know not everyone had a chance to make it to the showcase, but we still have a few great pieces available for purchase below! -

Donald Sultan Red Poppies, 2018 2018

FOUR POPPIES 2018

If you're looking for something bold, vibrant, and full of character, Donald Sultan’s Red Poppies is the piece for you! This print is rich in color and graphic contours, giving it a striking modern presence on the wall. It's representative of Sultan's signature abstraction and a gorgeous addition to any collection.

DOUBLE POPPIES 2025

We debuted Sultan's latest collection during this showcase and it was a collector favorite! The full Double Poppies portfolio consists of 8-colorways and features flocking with a sand-applied background. This series was printed by Sultan's son in his Providence studio and the scale and detail of each one is brilliant.

We think the Double Poppies are perfect in a set of two as bright statement pieces but even one is the perfect compliment to any room.

 LITTLE LANTERN FLOWERS 2025

If you’re looking for a smaller piece with the same impact as the larger ones check out the Little Lantern Flowers series. These works have a dynamic, almost sculptural visual flow. Utilizing enamel inks with a tar-like texture against soft flocking, each print contains a subtle depth and volume relief in the frame.

Donald Sultan Yellow Freesia, June 13, 2024 2024Donald Sultan Red Freesia, June 13, 2024 2024

FREESIA 2024

Created with archival pigments on Japanese mulberry paper, this series of three Freesia is a softer example of Sultan's abstracted florals. The line work reads as caligraphic, merging a traditional sensibility with modern minimalism. These prints are perfect for a collector looking for art with a distinctive character and contemporary elegance.

Donald Sultan Six Green Poppies, 2021 2023

FIVE POPPIES 2023

Sultan has a certain affinity for the poppy flower, and this series is gorgeous with a composition of six stylized renderings of the flower. All of us here in the gallery particularly enjoy the rhythmic composition and fresh feel of this series. As well as how the strong graphic shapes, thick Somerset paper, and playful colors create bold prints on the wall.

WALLFLOWERS 2008

The Wallflowers series by Donald Sultan reinvents the flower with simplicity and modernity. Each work transforms stylized floral silhouettes into repetitive graphic forms, exploring color, contrasts, and negative space. Created as limited-edition screenprints, these compositions balance abstraction and poetry, offering a presence that is both modern and serene, perfect for enhancing any interior.

Donald Sultan Blue Wall Poppy, Oct 15, 2024 2024

WALL POPPY

Aside from beautiful works on paper, Sultan has translated his distinctive style to the sculptural realm. These Wall Poppy pieces are remarkable in their juxtaposed industrial materiality and natural subject. With centers of soft flocking, these steel flowers are a great starter piece for any collector eager to find 3-D artworks.
