Heiner Meyer is a contemporary German artist who uses the style and icons of American Pop Art to highlight the role of consumerism in the modern identity. Once an assistant to Salvador Dali, Meyer uses the familiar motifs of celebrities, cartoon characters, and luxury goods to create his own vivid surrealist dreamscapes, where Marilyn Monroe, ancient Greek statues, and Mickey Mouse inhabit the same realm. Meyer was honored as the opening exhibition artist for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Giessen, Germany, and remains an influential voice in contemporary Pop Art today.
