Paul Insect is a UK-based contemporary artist whose work questions identity, visibility and perception. With a background in street art, Insect uses collage and mixed media to create highly textural compositions that combine all the absurdism of Dada and aesthetics of Pop Art with the sleekness of modernism. Insect is mainly known for his multi-layered portraits, depicting figures with balaclava-like masks surrounded by energetic brushstrokes, bold graphic shapes, and bright colors. Insect made an immediate impact on the art world in 2007 when his premiere solo exhibition, Bullion, was bought out by fellow contemporary artist Damien Hirst, two days before the show even opened.
