Arminius Hasemann was a born on September 6, 1888, in Berlin. He studied graphic art and sculpture at the Institute of Applied Arts in Berlin and at the Grand Duchy of Baden School of Art in Karlruhe. Due to his fluid, expressionist style, many of his works were either destroyed or confiscated and lost by the Nazi party in the early 1930s. His works that survive, however, are mostly autobiographical, and document his experiences in World War I. Hasemann was also a talented illustrator, providing images to accompany the texts of numerous books, included Don Quixote and The Circus.
