George Rodrigue (1944-2013) was an American artist whose art focused on Louisiana landscapes and Cajun culture. Inspired by Cajun folklore and a photograph of his own dog, Rodrigue painted the first of his iconic Blue Dog pieces in 1984. The design launched him to worldwide recognition, and in 1992 he joined the ranks of Andy Warhol and Hans Godo Frabel as an Absolut Vodka artist. Eventually, Rodrigue devoted his career to the Blue Dog series, explaining, "They are really about life, about mankind searching for answers.”
